CONWAY -- Despite the increased cost in fuel and material, the Conway light plant, under the management of E.V. Leverette, has been operated so economically and efficiently that the rates for current are 25 to 100 per cent lower than in neighboring towns. The cost of lighting in Conway per 200 kilowatt hours is $19.17, as compared with $31.50, the net bill in other towns. For power current, the net bill per 1,000 kilowatt hours is $38.03, as compared with $65 net for similar amount of current in other towns.

ARKADELPHIA -- Arkadelphia's overpass above Interstate 30 on Pine Street has two green signs on both sides that read "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Overpass" next to a sketch of King. The overpass was dedicated in 2004, after members of the city's Board of Directors denied the motion to rename all of Pine Street after King. But now it's just a matter of time before "Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard" signs will be erected in place of Pine Street ones. Arkadelphia residents were surprised when the Board of Directors -- without advance notice -- renamed Pine Street, one of the largest streets in the town, after King. The subject was not on the July 1 meeting agenda. Many residents, especially Pine Street business owners, said they felt blindsided.
