BENTONVILLE -- The City Council on Tuesday night decided to accept $250,000 for a traffic signal near Thaden School.

The signal will be at the intersection of Southeast Eighth and Southeast C streets, according to the council agenda packet. Thaden School is at 800 S.E. C St.

The school's plan included a traffic study showing the impact of the school would require a signal at the intersection, Dennis Birge, transportation engineer, wrote in a letter to the City Council.

"Thaden agrees to have the signal designed by Peters and Associates, donate the estimated cost of constructing the signal and the city agrees to incorporate the signal into the Eighth Street project," Birge wrote.

Thaden School is a private, independent school opening in fall 2017 with the backing of the Walton Family Foundation. It has 220 students in grades six through 11 this school year. Thaden expects to grow incrementally to serve about 500 students in grades 6-12, according to the school's website. Thaden is downtown on what used to be the Benton County Fairgrounds.

"We are thrilled to be a part of the Eighth Street expansion at such an important time in the growth of downtown Bentonville," Clayton Marsh, head of school, said. "With the extended time frame for completion of the Eighth Street expansion, our investment of $250,000 at this time ensures that the traffic light in question is seamlessly integrated into the larger development project."

The money will be included in the Eighth Street account for the future widening project, according to the council agenda.

The council also unanimously approved a rezoning associated with the Momentary, which opened Saturday. The rezone had city Planning Commission approval.

The rezone for South of Momentary was to a planned-unit development designation from general commercial, downtown mixed-use residential, according to planning documents. The address is 507 S.E. E St.

The development will contain the Momentary development and future phases to the south, according to planning documents. The first phase will include a parking garage for the venue. The second phase includes a multifamily housing development.

Potential phases include additional multifamily housing in a mixed-use development and expanding the main building, according to planning documents.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art owns the Momentary.

The council also accepted a $221,000 bid for the Little Sugar streambank and wetland restoration project, Streamline Environmental was the low bidder, according to council documents.

The project will repair about 1,500 feet of bank starting about 1,000 feet east of the pedestrian bridge on the south side of Lake Bella Vista dam property. The work should take about 90 days, according to council documents.

The council also approved a budget adjustment of $13,822 for bullet-resistant acrylic windows at the District Court building.
