Group to view woodcocks

The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a field trip at 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Lake Wedington to view woodcocks in their evening flight.

Dr. David Krementz, an authority on woodcocks, will lead the trip in the Ozark National Forest near the lake.

Mother Nature reads to kids

Mother Nature pays a visit to Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area to read stories to children at 10:30 a.m. the second Saturday of each month. Stories are geared toward children age 3-6, followed by hands-on craft projects.

Streams, landowners discussed

Dr. Brooks Blevins of Missouri State University will present the program "Battling for the Buffalo: Controlling the Fate of the Ozarks' Streams" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Boone County Library, 221 W. Stephenson Ave. in Harrison.

The talk focuses on the Ozarks' national rivers from the point of view of landowners affected by the designation. Buffalo National River Partners is sponsoring the talk.

Panel talks Beaver Lake fishing

A program and panel discussion about fishing at Beaver Lake will be at 2 p.m. March 29 at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area visitor center.

The event is aimed for beginning anglers or those who are new to fishing at Beaver. Three experts will present tips on fishing for black bass, crappie and striped bass at the lake. Bob Ross will offer tips for catching black bass. Tiffany Usrey will present crappie fishing tips. Tony Castro will offer advice for catching striped bass.

Hike to ID trees

Hikers will learn to identify dormant trees during a guided tour on the new Little Sugar Trails in Bella Vista from 1 to 4 p.m. March 7.

The walk will start at the water tower parking area on Chelsea Road at London Drive. Participants will be led down the Tunnel Vision trail (moderately strenuous) to the Tweety Bird trail loop (easy), for a total of about 2.5 miles round trip.

The hike will be led by Cris and Eleanor Jones, Arkansas master naturalists.
