Walmart to host drive-in movies in Northwest Arkansas

Free drive-in movie theaters will pop up in Walmart parking lots across the country this fall.

Walmarts in Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale will hold a total of six film screenings in September, according to a news release.

"We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months, and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories," said Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer. "The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we're supporting the communities we serve."

The retailer announced Wednesday the 160 locations that will participate between Aug. 14 and Oct. 21.

Showings will be hosted Sept. 15 and 16 in Bentonville, Sept. 18 and 19 in Rogers and Sept. 22 and 23 in Springdale, according to the release.

Though the movies shown will vary by location, "Wonder Woman," "Spy Kids," "Space Jam," "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," "Ghostbusters" and "The Wizard of Oz" will be among the films.

Tickets are free, but must be reserved in advance, according to the release.

Parking spaces will be socially distanced and guests will stay in their vehicles.
