The Arkansas Arts Center is the last place you would expect to find graffiti. But that's exactly what you'd have found Aug. 24 when "artists" -- both young and old -- were encouraged to paint on the walls.
And that's just the beginning of the fun that was had at the Member Farewell Festival, a party for kids and adults to see the center one more time before it closes for major renovations. The event included a huge inflatable slide, a beach party complete with a tiki bar, a disco dance floor, a karaoke lounge and tons of kid-friendly games.
The kids cleared out by 5 p.m., making way for an adults-only party. The finale included a champagne toast and indoor fireworks.
During the $128 million renovation project, the Arts Center will temporarily be in the former Walmart at the Riverdale Shopping Center on Cantrell Road. It is expected to reopen its new building in early 2022.
