Baylor University

Jeremy Ryan Fields of Fort Smith received his master of business administration, online business administration, degree from Baylor University during summer commencement exercises Aug. 17 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus.

Ottawa University

Ottawa University announces that Brooke Elizabeth Barron of Kingston was named to the spring 2019 dean's list.

Dean's List honorees must be full-time degree-seeking students who have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours over the preceding two semesters at Ottawa University and earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.

Belmont University

Cole Bishop of Springdale, Kaitlyn Mashburn of Elkins, Alexander Milford of Bentonville, Madison Weston of Bentonville and Harrison Williams of Rogers participated in the Towering Traditions orientation program at Belmont University. New Bruins spent an afternoon traveling to 50 locations across the greater Nashville area for service. The event, called SERVE, allows students to immerse themselves in their new hometown.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock

Joey Cox of Evansville and Namtip Thepouthay Savathvongxay of Fort Smith were named to the chancellor's list at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the summer 2019 semester.

To be named to the chancellor's list, a student must have completed at least nine credit hours with a grade of A, B, C or "credit", and maintained at least a 3.9 grade point average.

State Technical College of Missouri

Canaan Silcox of Bentonville was named to dean's list for the 2019 summer semester at State Technical College of Missouri in Linn, Mo

To be placed on the dean's list, a full-time student must earn a semester grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0 on a 4-point scale.

St. Olaf College

Ridley Lawrence Weeks of Fayetteville recently graduated from St. Olaf College. St. Olaf President David R. Anderson '74 presided over the college's 130th commencement ceremony, which was held May 26.

Southern Arkansas University

Southern Arkansas University Theater performed Macbeth at Harton Theatre Oct. 2-6.

Students with roles in the play from this area include the following:

Danielle Boyster, sophomore theater major from Siloam Springs. Boyster is an assistant stage manager.

John Orndorff, sophomore theater major from Gravette. Orndorff played the role of Nathaniel Angus.

Timothy Starr, senior musical theater major from Van Buren. Starr was the props designer.

Simon Tursky, junior musical theater major from Van Buren. Tursky played the role of Malcolm and was the sound designer.

Oglethorpe University

Senior Rodrigo Meade of the Oglethorpe University men's cross country team has been named the OU Male Athlete of the Week. Meade is a graduate of IMG Academy and from Fort Smith.

Meade had an excellent race at the Rhodes College Invitational on Sept, 21 in Memphis, Tenn. With a time of 25 minutes and 51.9 seconds, he finished 29th overall and sixth among Division III athletes. That served as one of the best 8-kilometer times in program history. Meade led his team to a sixth-place finish at the meet, putting them second among Division III teams and ahead of defending SAA champion, Rhodes College.

Southern Arkansas University

There were 64 students recently appointed to serve as Resident Assistants for Southern Arkansas University Housing during the 2019-20 academic year.

Those from this area include:

• Paul Cole, assigned to Talley Hall, sophomore agricultural education major from Prairie Grove;

• Scarlett Duncan, assigned to the Mulerider Pointe Apartments, senior management major from Rogers; and

• Aaron Murphy, assigned to Columbia Hall, senior management major from Berryville.

Resident Assistants (RAs) are student leaders and representatives for Southern Arkansas University's Department of Housing. RAs are responsible for a wide range of duties including serving the SAU resident community as a peer counselor and assisting their Resident Director in maintaining overall management and monitoring of their residence hall. In addition to their daily duties, RAs serve as a liaison between University Housing and student, developing regular social, educational, and safety programs as well as conducting floor meetings to promote positive communication. These recipients have a room and board scholarship each semester as an RA.

Applicants for RA positions must be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student with a minumum 2.25 cumulative GPA. Applicants must also have spent a minimum of one semester residence in a SAU residence hall.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has announced the student-athletes who will make up the inaugural wrestling team roster for the 2019-20 season.

The wrestling team includes four Arkansans, seven wrestlers from previous collegiate teams across the nation, six freshmen from the southern region and nine freshman from the midwestern region.

Local student-athletes who made the UA Little Rock wrestling team include Jake Turner of Rogers and Matthew Muller of Fayetteville.
