SPRINGDALE -- A Springdale High School teacher who police have said is part of an investigation has resigned.

The man was an English teacher, according to the school's website. He resigned Thursday, according to Rick Schaeffer, the School District's director of communications.

A Springdale High School student reported to police Monday the teacher had "inappropriate social media interaction" with a female student at the school, according to a news release from the police.

The release said police wanted to speak with anyone who knew about the reported activity.

The teacher is not being named by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette because police haven't reported an arrest.

Lt. Jeff Taylor, a police spokesman, didn't return messages seeking comment Thursday.

The district, following the student going to the police, ensured the teacher had no interaction with students, Schaeffer said Tuesday.
