Boil order issued for water authority

BENTONVILLE -- A boil order for customers of Benton County Water Authority No. 5 will likely last through the weekend, an official said Thursday.

The boil order was issued Wednesday. The water authority receives its water from Madison County, said Judy Lewis, the water authority manager. The precautionary boil order was issued because routine maintenance is being done on the water storage tanks, Lewis said.

Samples should be back from the Arkansas Department of Health next week, she said.

Customers are advised the water may be unsafe for human consumption. Water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled for a minute, according to a news release.

The authority serves nearly 580 customers east of the Arkansas 12 bridge, according to its website.
