When it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July, most of Northwest Arkansas has one motto: Go big, or go home. Take Gentry, for example, which will be celebrating its 125th Fourth of July Freedom Fest this year. There are big plans for the celebration.
"The city of Gentry declared in 1894 that July 4th would be the official day of celebration for the city, and, as far as we can tell, July 4th has been observed with a city celebration since then," says Janie Parks, Gentry Chamber of Commerce director. She says Gentry's extravaganza is the largest in Benton County. "We have a large celebration planned with several live bands leading up to our headliner, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, performing at 7:30 p.m. One of the best fireworks displays in Northwest Arkansas follows at dusk. Last year, we had an estimated 12,000 people attend the event. The live entertainment and most activities are free and provided by the Gentry Chamber and our sponsors. We have craft vendors, food vendors, a Kid's Zone, Car Show and Wild Wilderness Safari Petting Zoo."
