KATV buys Riverdale site for $4.4M

Little Rock television station KATV, Channel 7, has purchased the Riverdale property its been eyeing for its new home for nearly $4.4 million.

The property at 10 Turtle Creek Lane had been listed by Colliers International for $3.69 million.

The Student Loan Guarantee Foundation of Arkansas was the seller. The transaction closed on May 31, according to online records of the Pulaski County assessor's office.

The property includes a two-story, 26,615-square-foot office building that sits on a nearly 4-acre site between Riverfront and Brookwood drives. It was built in 2007.

For 50 years, the station has been at East Fourth and Main streets. KATV is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates 191 television stations in the United States.

Word of the new location arrived when KATV executives asked the city for a variance to allow it to build a 100-foot transmission tower. The city limits tower heights to 75 feet.

The station withdrew the request after a group of condominium owners opposed it. The property's previous owner later applied and was granted a permit to build a 75-foot tower.
