• John Stevens, 78, the driver of a school bus that was struck by a train in Athens, Texas, killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring a 9-year-old girl, has been indicted on charges of manslaughter and injury to a child, prosecutors said.
• Kevin Gerber, a police sergeant in Decatur, Ind., said officers rescued a 74-year-old woman who was trapped on her living room couch unable to reach her walker after three deer crashed through a window into her apartment and caused a lot of damage.
