Holmes plans run for prosecutor job

Kevin Holmes, an attorney in Van Buren, said he plans to run for prosecuting attorney of Crawford County.

Holmes, 40, has been an attorney in Crawford County for 15 years. He is a founding member of the Hopkins and Holmes law firm. He was a deputy city prosecutor and a child advocate in family law cases, and he has argued cases before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis and the Arkansas Supreme Court.

In July 2015, Holmes was appointed to serve as a special justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court by Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Holmes served two terms on the Crawford County Quorum Court, the governing body of that county.

Marc McCune, the prosecutor since 2000, left office to become a circuit judge on July 1. The governor appointed Robert Presley, the Crawford County deputy prosecutor, to replace McCune until Dec. 31, 2020.

The election will be on March 3, 2020, during the presidential primary. The term would begin Jan. 1, 2021.
