LITTLE RED RIVER (GREERS FERRY TAILWATER) Generators are running about 12 hours a day. The river does not drop to low water stage before the next slug of water arrives, so wade fishing opportunities are limited. Fly fishermen are doing well with egg patterns, San Juan worms and streamers during high water conditions, and midges, soft hackles, sowbugs and streamers during normal water conditions. Hot pink, cotton candy and white bodies on chartreuse jigheads are recommended for Trout Magnet spin fishing.

NORFORK -- -- -- --

WHITE RIVER Minnows have been working best for brown trout, with sculpins running a close second. The water level was a little lower most of the week, allowing anglers to catch rainbow trout with gold blade inline spinnerbaits. Bank fishermen have done well with nightcrawlers. Boaters have done well dragging scented pink or pink/white worms.

NORFORK TAILWATER All of the lakes in the White River System are now above the top of the power pool. More high water will be seen and little if any wadable water. The most productive flies have been small midge patterns like ruby midges, root beer midges and zebra midges. Black or red with silver wire and silver bead are best. Soft hackles like the green butt are working well, too. Egg patterns also have been productive. Double-fly nymph rigs have been very effective. Try a small Y2K suspended 18 inches below a brightly colored San Juan worm. Best colors are hot fluorescent pink or cerise. The fishing is better in the morning.

OUACHITA -- -- -- --

LAKE HAMILTON TAILWATER Open flood gates and very heavy generation have shut down fishing, as dangerous conditions exist in the tailrace. Fast flows and high water have forced boaters and bank fishermen to forgo any effort to fish this week. These conditions will persist until Lake Ouachita falls out of flood pool. This process will most likely last all of this week and possibly longer. Until stable conditions return to Lake Catherine, all boating and wade fishing should be curtailed for safety reasons.
