ALMA -- Rusty Bush was named Alma's new head football coach during a Thursday afternoon's press conference at the school.
Bush replaces Doug Loughridge, who now assumes the role of the school's athletic director.
Bush comes to Alma from Fort Smith Northside, where he served as an assistant for 14 seasons. He was the Grizzlies' defensive coordinator for 7 years under former head coach Darrell Henry, then he served as the assistant head coach under Mike Falleur, who was on hand for Thursday's press conference.
Bush, a Fordyce native, started his coaching career 21 years ago as a graduate assistant at Henderson State under the late Ronnie Kerr. He was also an assistant at Benton and at El Dorado before making the move to Northside.
Alma also named Arkansas-Fort Smith assistant coach Kim Weaver its new volleyball coach during the conference. Weaver, a Fort Smith native and Southside graduate, played at UAFS and Arkansas-Little Rock and was the head coach at Texas Wesleyan, where her teams were 86-53 from 2013-16.
Weaver also coached at Midland College from 2007-10 and at Liberty Christian for two years.
