Hike to explore falls
A guided hike to Tea Kettle Falls in the Madison County Wildlife Management Area is set for 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, starting at the Ozark Natural Science Center. If conditions allow, the hike will also visit nearby Reynolds Falls.
Cost is $15. The hike is approximately 3 miles and rated moderate with a wet stream crossing. The route is not on a designated trail. Travel will be at an easy pace. Hike leaders will teach about the forest and landscape along the way.

Program ponders dark sky
Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area.
Bruce McMath, chairman of the Arkansas Natural Sky Association, will give a program on light pollution and the effort to designate the Buffalo National River as a dark sky park.
Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society board of directors will be elected at the meeting. Birding opportunities are numerous around the park. The public is welcome. Audubon membership is not required.
Walk visits holiday lights
Ozark Hill Hikers will hold a 5-kilometer walk Saturday evening in Fayetteville to see the Lights of the Ozarks, Frisco Trail and Mount Nord Historic District.
Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. at Walgreen's, 524 S. School Ave. The walk is at 5 p.m. Walkers should bring flashlights. For details email [email protected].
Benefit bass event set
A benefit bass tournament is set for Saturday at Table Rock Lake out of the Mill Creek ramp. Revenue helps with medical expenses for Jason Newberry.
Entry fee is $100 per boat, with an optional $10 for the big bass pot. Registration starts at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the ramp. Fishing is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A silent auction and prize drawings will be held.

Trails close for hunt
Most trails at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will be closed Jan. 11-12 during the park's limited permit youth modern gun deer hunt.
Open trails include the Ozark Plateau trail near the visitor center, Historic Van Winkle Trail and Tunnel Connector Trail. For details call the visitor center, 479-789-5000.
Center offers holiday treats
The Missouri Department of Conservation will host an open house at the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Joplin.
The event will offer light refreshments and holiday activities for children. The center is at 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin.
The Wildcat Glades Friends Group will have the Wildcat Glades Nature Store open for shopping. No registration is required. Call 417-629-3434 for more information.
Lakes see seasonal closure
Lake Fayetteville and Lake Sequoyah will be closed Dec. 23-Jan. 14 for their annual seasonal closure. Use permits may be purchased when the lakes, operated by the city of Fayetteville, reopen.
