Commission gives $12,000 to help Bentonville events

BENTONVILLE -- The Advertising and Promotions Commission agreed Thursday to spend $12,000 to support three events in Bentonville.

The commission approved giving $3,500 to the Native American Cultural Celebration, formerly the Native American Cultural Symposium, to be held Oct. 4-6 at the Museum of Native American History.

According to request documents, the celebration is the museum's signature event, which will center on bridging tradition through pop culture.

The commission also OK'd giving $2,500 to the American Exhibition Organizers Annual Meeting, Oct. 23-25 at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

This is the first time the event will be held at Crystal Bridges, according to request documents. The event is expected to bring together experienced and emerging professionals from museums in the United States and Canada.

Commission members lastly approved giving $6,000 to the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association conference, Jan. 17-20, at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton.

Participants from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas will attend the conference, anticipated to draw as many as 250 out-of-state visitors, according to documents.
