Blood center

seeks donors

Currently, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks reports less than a three day supply of type O Negative and B Negative blood. But all blood types are needed this week. Please give if you are eligible.

Red Cross

needs blood

The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood during National Volunteer Month this April. Eligible donors of all blood types -- especially type O -- are needed to help ensure blood products are available for patients this spring.

Those who come to donate by April 30 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a full-size Iron Throne from HBO's Game of Thrones. Terms and conditions apply and are available at RedCrossBlood.org/HBOGameofThrones. Additionally, all presenting donors through April 30, will receive a commemorative Bleed for the Throne poster, while supplies last, and automatically be entered in the above-mentioned sweepstakes.

The Osher Lifelong Institute at the University of Arkansas announces the following classes for the upcoming week:

April 23: "Moving the Needle on Children's Health in Arkansas." Hosted at the newest children's hospital in the country, Arkansas Children's Northwest, class members will have the opportunity to tour the new facility, meet the leadership and learn about the state of children's health in Arkansas. Several doctors, administrators and possibly a patient will speak to the group. $18 members, $33 nonmembers.

April 24: "See the Best Aquarium in the U.S. ... and the World of Wildlife, As Well!" $60 members, $75 nonmembers. Transportation rates also provided.

April 25: "Hike to Lake Alma and Petroglyph Site." $22 members, $37 nonmembers.

Benham

to speak

Renowned Native American artist and University of Arkansas at Fort Smith alumnus Jay Benham will present artistic works and discuss the history of Kiowa religious tradition and governmental policies at 5 p.m. April 16 in the Smith Pendergraft Campus Center Room 129AB.

The event, titled "U.S. Government Policies on Native American Religion and Art" is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided

Benham is a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma whose art is deeply influenced by his heritage. His work is displayed across the country and has been featured in galleries in Sedona, Ariz., Santa Fe, N.M., and Oklahoma City. Locally, Benham works as a museum educator at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

The event is hosted by the UAFS Baha'i Club and Culture Net.

Suicide TALK

Safe TALK Suicide Prevention and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host a class for Northwest Arkansas Medical Social Workers Suicide Training with speaker Mary K. Meacham from 8 to 11:30 a.m. June 7 at Butterfield Trail Retirement Village, 1923 E. Joyce Blvd. in Fayetteville.

The event is free, with limited seating. A light breakfast and snack will be provided.
