Arkansan shocked in rescue attempt

An Arkansas man is in critical condition days after suffering an electric shock while trying to rescue a stranger who had fallen into a canal in Oklahoma City's downtown district, authorities said Tuesday.

Brandon Gann, 31, of Van Buren was pulled out of Bricktown Canal shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday near the Brickopolis entertainment venue at 101 S. Mickey Mantle Drive, according to a report from the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Gann had jumped into the water to rescue Wesley Seeley, 23, who had fallen into the canal when the light pole he was leaning against toppled over, police said.

Seeley of Tuttle Okla., tried to pull himself out by grabbing wires hanging next to the broken light post and was electrocuted, the report said. Authorities said Gann was shocked, possibly by the same wires, in the rescue effort.

Gann is being treated at an intensive-care unit in Oklahoma City, according to a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $4,500 for the personal trainer.

Posts on Gann's Facebook page show he had gotten married the day before the incident.

Benny Fulkerson, battalion chief at the Oklahoma City Fire Department said witnesses described the two men as strangers.
