Komodo to replace Mellow Mushroom

ROGERS -- The building that housed the Mellow Mushroom at 5204 W. Village Parkway won't look the same when the more than $500,000 renovation concludes and the modern Asian cuisine restaurant Komodo opens its doors mid-June.

Larry Davis, one of the partners on the project and owner of Infinity Compounding Solutions in Bentonville, said the restaurant will be a "step up" from the P.F. Chang's.

Komodo was born from Davis' connection with a family friend's husband, Reid Combellack, a Californian restaurateur. While Davis' background is in pharmacology, his said his travels have fostered a love for food. Davis approached Combellack wanting to open a "unique, chef-driven" restaurant in Northwest Arkansas. Davis brought on two partners to finance the project and Combellack used his connections and brought on chef Ryan Brown.

"From his first appetizer I knew this guy was the bomb," Davis said.

Brown will get to showcase his Asian training in the Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese dishes that will be served.

Komodo will feature several private dining options, including three separate dining areas with removable, glass walls that allow for an expanded dining area and booths with wraparound curtains. Outdoor seating will include a covered and uncovered patio. In all, Davis says the restaurant may be able to seat 250 people.

Komodo will be open for lunch and dinner. Specific hours of operation have not been set.
