Arkansas State Police Corporal Moomey named trooper of the year

Seven year Arkansas State Police veteran Corporal Ray Moomey was named trooper of the year during an Arkansas State Police awards luncheon Thursday.

"All of the awards presented to Corporal Moomey were based on his actions during the early morning hours of August 8, 2016," Bill Sadler, State Police public information officer, said.

That morning, Moomey responded to a call of a westbound vehicle traveling "at a high rate of speed" in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 40. Moomey "maneuvered his patrol car in the lane of the on-coming vehicle" and sustained life threatening injuries when his patrol car and the deliquent car collided. Moomey is still undergoing rehabilitation to recover from the crash.

Moomey was also awarded the Department's lifesaving award and gold shield award. Troopers Kyle Bost, Ben Ibarra and Paul Robson were also presented lifesaving awards.
