• Plans are being made to repair nearly 40 miles of a levee system along the White River where tree roots, erosion and other maintenance problems could cause breaches. The levee system is one of two Arkansas projects on a list released Thursday by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of 122 levees across the nation that are at risk of failing. The list was released in response to Freedom of Information Act requests filed by The Associated Press and other news organizations. Cutting a swath through rich farmland, the White River banks frame the east bank of the river from just south of Augusta to north of Clarendon.
