VAN BUREN -- The Van Buren Lady Pointers started the game by not missing their first four shots Friday night at Clair Bates Arena.

Van Buren didn't miss many after that hot start offensively, either.

Danae Goodwin scored a team-high 13 points to lead a balanced attack in a 60-34 victory against Russellville in a 7A/6A-Central Conference game.

"They are coming out and playing their tails off for each other," Van Buren Coach Chris Bryant said. "It's always someone stepping up for us each night. They are all great teammates."

Van Buren made 22 of 36 from the field in the game, while Russellville was limited to 12 of 48 shooting.

"We didn't get many shots to fall," Russellville Coach Sherry White said. "We got shut down and they couldn't miss early. I thought we had some good looks. We just didn't have our shots fall. Van Buren did everything right."

Jamilyn Kinney scored 11 points while Bailey Jones and Taylar Sutton each had 10 points for Van Buren (16-4, 6-1).

Van Buren made its first four baskets of the game without a miss to take a 10-3 lead early in the first quarter.

The Lady Cyclones then closed out the first quarter with an 8-4 run to cut the lead to 14-11 heading into the second quarter.

Van Buren didn't look back after that, building a 27-13 lead heading into halftime after not allowing Russellville to score until there was 2:50 left before the break.

The Lady Pointers used a 9-0 run to start the second quarter to jump out to a 23-11 lead.

The offensive success for Van Buren continued into the third quarter when a 13-0 run pushed the advantage out to 40-13 early in the second half.

"After playing a first half you can only dream of playing, we played really well after that as well," Bryant said. "It really means something going against a really quality team."

Russellville was outscored 26-4 in a lengthy stretch after scoring just two points in the second quarter and then scoring its first points of the third quarter with 4:22 left on the clock.

"I appreciate the effort from the kids because this time of the year you are cutting back on stuff you do," Bryant said of the defensive play. "It's fun to watch this as a coach. Russellville is a good offensive team and got good looks."

Van Buren kept the game well out of reach by using an 11-5 run to start the final quarter that made the lead 58-27.

Russellville (16-2, 5-2) was led by Alyssa Owens, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Shameka Ealy added 10 points for the Lady Cyclones.
