Dead man had called kin to say he was lost

Search crews find his body in marsh

The body of a man reported missing Wednesday evening was found in a swampy area of Pulaski County on Thursday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

Gary Neil Halsey called his brother Jackie Halsey about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and told him that he was going to look at hunting dogs for sale near McDonald Road and had become lost, the sheriff's office said.

About two hours later, Gary Halsey called Jackie Halsey again to tell him that he was near power lines on East Bingham Road and McDonald Road, and wanted his brother and his brother's son, Andrew Halsey, to get to him.

Authorities said Andrew Halsey called his uncle to tell him they were on their way, and Gary Halsey said he would call back to provide more information about his location.

Family members never heard back from Gary Halsey, according to the sheriff's office.

Gary Halsey's vehicle was found unlocked at the 3600 block of McDonald Road after authorities were called to the area to search for him Wednesday evening.

According to a sheriff's office report, multiple agencies suspended the search at 12:34 a.m. Thursday. It resumed later in the morning.

Gary Halsey's body was found about 10 a.m. in the area of McDonald Road and Lorance Heights in Pulaski County.

No foul play was suspected, authorities said.

Agencies involved in the search included the county Office of Emergency Management, Quail Creek Fire Department, McAlmont Fire Department, Arch Street Fire Department and Hensley Fire Department, according to the sheriff's office.
