Decatur man sentenced for sexual assault

BENTONVILLE — A Decatur man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two girls.

Michael Joseph Conway, 39, pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual assault in the first degree, a Class A felony; sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony. The plea came under an agreement that attorney Gregory Klebanoff reached with Carly Marshall, deputy prosecutor.

He was arrested July 3.

Conway was charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, according to court documents. The girls were interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County where they disclosed being sexually abused by Conway, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Conway was sentenced to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He will have to abide by a suspended sentence agreement for 10 years after his release from prison. He will be required to register as a sex offender.

Conway also must pay $1,670 in court costs.
