Courtesy Photo Kyla Boardman, daughter of Michael and Jennifer Boardman of Eureka Springs, has been named the Eureka Springs Rotary Student of the Year. Boardman graduated from Eureka Springs High School this spring and is planning to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in the fall. Last summer she was a short-term Rotary foreign exchange student in Switzerland. She served as president of the Eureka Springs Rotary Interact Club in her senior year and recruited several new students into the club. Service Above Self is the Rotary Motto and Boardman exemplified that motto by helping with the Scout food drive, volunteering at her church and by helping organize and participating in several fund raisers which netted the Rotary Interact Club over $1,800 this year to purchase a wheel chair for the American Wheelchair Mission, help the Shawn Flodman wheelchair fund and purchase new shoes for children in Carroll County through Samaritan’s Feet. The Eureka Springs Rotary is donating $100 in her honor to the charity of her choice, Heifer International. The money will be donated to purchase honey bees for needy families around the world. Boardman was also the recipient of the Eureka Springs Rotary’s four-year scholarship which consists of $3,000 her freshman year and $1,000 each year through her senior year in college. She is pictured with Joanie Kratzer (from left), Eureka Springs Rotary; Boardman; her mother, Jennifer Boardman; and Mickey Finefield, Eureka Springs Rotary.
