Two sue railroad company after wreck

Two passengers who were aboard a sightseeing excursion train Oct. 16 sued the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad claiming they were injured when the train was struck by another engine south of West Fork.

Corliss Johnson, of Rogers, and Margaret Karen Harkins, of Lowell, claim the railroad was negligent for giving the engineer on a relief train incorrect information about the location of the stalled excursion train and failing to monitor the speed and location of the trains.

The engineer on the assisting train failed to keep a proper lookout and was travelling at an excessive speed, according to the lawsuit. It also claims chairs on the excursion train were not securely attached to the floor.
