Pea Ridge Races Past West Fork

PEA RIDGE -- Pea Ridge's long range shooting was too much for West Fork Tuesday night.

Pea Ridge hit six first half 3-pointers and five more in the second half as the Blackhawks defeated West Fork 62-39 in a nonconference game Tuesday night.

Cole Wright came off the bench for Pea Ridge and hit four 3-pointers while finishing with 14 points. Senior Zach Davis hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for the Blackhawks.

"We did a good job of shooting the basketball," said Pea Ridge coach Trent Loyd. "I thought we had a lot of effort. We still have a ways to go, but that is what these nonconference games are for."

Pea Ridge (4-3), which was playing at home for the first time this season, closed out the first period with a 3-pointer by Westin Church for a 19-9 lead and Wright opened the second period with back-to-back 3-pointers for a 25-10 lead. Zach Davis added another 3-pointer with just over three minutes before halftime as the Blackhawks cruised to a 34-17 lead.

"Cole Wright gave us a spark right there," Loyd said.

West Fork (4-4) was as close as 9-8 after a stickback by Harrison Johnson with 3 minutes, 35 seconds left in the first period. But the Tigers would go over nine minutes before they scored again from the field again as Pea Ridge led by 13.

Ryan and Cody Roebke both scored 13 points each for West Fork.

"Pea Ridge is a great team, a great shooting team," said West Fork coach Nolan Helder. "Pea Ridge just hit too many tonight for us to stay with them."

Olivia Karnes led three West Fork players in double figures with 23 points as the Lady Tigers pulled away from Pea Ridge in a nonconference game.

Holly Griffin scored 11 points for West Fork while Sara Greenlee added 10. Mikhaela Cochran led Pea Ridge with 25 points, including 16 in the first half.

Pea Ridge raced to a 12-4 lead early in the game as Cochran scored eight points for the Lady Blackhawks. But the Lady Tigers cut the lead to 12-11 at the end of the first period and they then used a 11-0 run in the second period for a 24-16 lead.

Shannon Throgmorton and Greenlee started the run with back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Lady Tigers their first lead of the game at 19-16.

West Fork led 31-24 at halftime and 3-pointers by Smith, Griffin and Greenlee pushed the lead to 44-32 as the Lady Tigers pulled away.
