BASEBALL Arkansas Tech extends streak to 17

Arkansas Tech defeated Henderson State 7-3 and 4-2 in Arkadelphia on Saturday to extend its winning streak to 17 games.

The Wonder Boys (36-8, 22-5 Great American Conference) got six scoreless innings in relief by Trent Armstrong in the first game, while Chance Scmardo and Kris Ayers each had two hits. In the second game, five Wonder Boys had two hits as Tech set a school record for victories in a season.

In the first game, the Reddies (17-25, 11-15) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly by A.J. Kruzel along with a two-run single by Joseph Gary.

The Wonder Boys tied the game in the sixth when Ayers had a home run. In the seventh, Sage Boehner had a two-run triple to put Arkansas Tech up 5-3. Patrick Castleberry added a single to make it 6-3. Zac Johnson scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-3 in the eighth.

In the second game, Arkansas Tech took a 4-0 lead. Jay Johnson had an RBI double in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Keenan Jumper had an RBI single and Boehner had a two-run double to make it 4-0.

SAU’s Buchanan no hits Southern Nazarene

Southern Arkansas’ Timothy Buchanan threw a seven-inning no-hitter against Southern Nazarene in a 12-0 victory Saturday in Magnolia.

The no-hitter was the fifth ever by a Southern Arkansas pitcher and the first since Hayden Simpson threw one against Culver Stockton in February 2009.

Buchanan (6-3) allowed a first-inning walk and hit a batter in the fourth inning. The only other base runner came on an error in the sixth. He struck out 12 batters in the game.

Southern Arkansas (32-14, 17-10 Great American Conference) scored seven runs in the first inning, three in the second and two in the sixth.

In the second game, Southern Nazarene won 7-5.

SOFTBALL Arkansas Tech splits with Henderson

Arkansas Tech lost 14-3 to Henderson State before winning the second game 3-0 at the Chartwell’s Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville.

In the first game, Henderson State (27-20, 22-13 Great American Conference) scored five times in the fifth inning and seven times in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Chelsea Reeves, Jalissa Gum and Shanna Davidson had home runs for the Golden Suns (25-25, 15-21).

Harding sweeps Ouachita Baptist

Harding defeated Ouachita Baptist 6-5 in eight innings and 9-1 in six innings Saturday in Searcy.

In the first game, Courtney Derrick scored on a wild pitch for the game-winning run for Harding (30-23, 22-18 Great American Conference).

The Lady Bisons tied the game in the seventh when Courtney Chambers was hit by a pitch to score Brookelyn Moon.

Amber Rollins (16-11) picked up the victory for Harding, pitching a complete game. Abbi Frakes (11-16) took the loss for Ouachita Baptis (17-33, 12-24).

In the second game, Hading scored five runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.

Danielle Hubbard (12-10) picked up the victory, pitching 5 innings and giving up 4 hits and 1 run. Macy Nantz (1-5) took the loss for Ouachita Baptist.

GYMNASTICS Grable in position for title

Arkansas’ Katherine Grable finished second in the all-around competition with a 39.60 in Session II of the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday behind scores of 9.95 on the vault and floor exercise. She qualified for the event finals, which were held later Saturday night.

Grable drew the second position in the vault final of the 12 gymnasts and the final spot in the floor exercise.

GOLF Arkansas women second after two rounds

After a rain-delayed first round Friday, Arkansas is in second place after the first two rounds of the SEC Women’s Championship in Birmingham, Ala.

The Razorbacks (294-297) shot a 591 and trail Vanderbilt by six strokes. LSU is in third place, one stroke back at 592.

Arkansas sophomore Gabriella Lopez is tied for fifth at 145 (73-72). Senior Emily Tubert is tied for eighth at 146 (73-73); sophomore Regina Plasenica is tied for 11th after shooting a 147 (72-75); and senior Emma Lavy is tied for 36th at 153 (76-77). Vanderbilt’s Simin Feng (73-70), Jenny Hahn (71-72) and Alabama’s Janie Jackson (68-75) share the lead at 143.

Arkansas had to finish the first round Saturday morning. The final round begins at 8 a.m. today and the Razorbacks tee off at 9:40 a.m.

TRACK AND FIELD Arkansas’ Scott sets school record

Arkansas’ Dominque Scott set a school record in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 42.42 seconds Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

Scott broke Jessica Dailey’s record of 15:48.89 set in 2000.

Also for the UA women, Arkansas’ Diane Robinson finished fifth in the 10,000 in 33:47.79, which ranks third in the SEC this spring. Jessica Kamilos finished 11th in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:15.33. Stephanie Brown had a personal best of 4:11.40 in the 1,500.

In men’s competition, Jarrion Lawson won the long jump with a best jump of 25 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Omar McLeod finished third in the 400 in 51.79. Patrick Rono finished sixth in the 1,500 in 3:46.11, a personal record. Raymond Higgs was seventh in the triple jump with a best jump of 48-11 1/2 , a personal record. Neil Braddy finished 11th in the 400 in 47.30.

TENNIS OBU men win GAC title

Ouachita Baptist defeated East Central (Okla.) 5-2 on Saturday at the Memorial Park Tennis Complex in Bentonville to win the Great American Conference men’s title.

Ouachita Baptist won both doubles matches. Marko Boskovic and Victor Oliveira won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles over Julian Caminos and Andrew Cabato. Maciej Bracsiszewiz and Teodor Anghel won 9-8, 7-2 at No. 2 doubles over Max DeJuan and Marc Fillat.

Boskovic won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3 over Fillat. In No. 2 singles, Oliveria won 6-2, 6-1 over DeJuan. Bradiszewiz won 6-3, 7-5 over Cabato. Harding women take conference title

Harding defeated Arkansas Tech 5-3 on Saturday to win the Great American Conference women’s title at the Memorial Park Tennis Complex in Bentonville.

Arkansas Tech won two of the three doubles matches. But Harding won four of the singles matches to secure the victory. Kaleigh Wagner defeated Laura Sanchez 6-2, 6-6 (7-4). Piper Huey defeated Bohdana Sardak 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Benayapa Phumtip defeated Ogla Leyshnya in three sets and Arielle Butler defeated Camila Roca 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
