Lake Hamilton roars back with Eastburn, QB Sawrie

PEARCY - Chris Eastburn ran for four touchdowns, helping Lake Hamilton recover from an early 7-0 deficit to post a 41-14 victory over Marion Friday night at Summit Bank Field.

Marion scored on Dereon Thomas’ 1 run with 5:43 to play in the first quarter, but the lead didn’t last long.

Lake Hamilton answered with a quick score and dominated from there, rolling behind the 1-2 offensive punch of seniors Eastburn and Nathan Sawrie.

Sawrie had 297 combined passing and rushing yards to go along with Eastburn’s four touchdowns as Lake Hamilton (2-1) dominated after pulling even on a four-play drive that ended with a 1-yard run by Eastburn

Lake Hamilton led 19-7 at halftime and Sawrie added a 41-yard touchdown pass to Trevor Mittelstadt in a 15-0 third quarter, and Josh Nazario returned an interception 54 yards for a 41-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

Sawrie passed for 183 yards, completing 8 of 14 with an interception, and ran for a gamehigh 114 yards on 7 carries. Eastburn rushed 9 times for 94 yards, scoring on 5-, 22- and 13-yard runs.

Marion took the lead with a 13-play drive on the opening possession, Thomas gained 17 yards around right end on aquick toss and scoring from the 1e. Jacob Fisher kicked it to 7-0 at 5:43 of the first quarter.

The Wolves answered with Sawrie scrambling for 14 yards, then finding Levi Rengstorf behind the secondary for a 46-yard gain to the 1. Eastburn scored from there, and Omar Vega tying the score at 4:55.

A 23-yard run by Andreas Jackson on the next play from scrimmage and a first down by penalty on fourthand-1 moved Marion to Lake Hamilton’s 37, but Stephen Shirley and Eastburn dropped Jackson for a 2-yard loss on fourth down from the 33. Sawrie, faking a handoff to Hunter Lipton, raced for 48 yards, and Eastburn rumbled for 7 off the right side before bulling in from the 5 for a 13-7 lead at 1:41 of the second quarter.

Donnell West’s third-down tackle forced the game’s first punt, and the Wolves moved into Patriots territory on Eastburn’s 27-yard run through the right side. Sawrie’s 12- and 11-yard completions to Mittelstadt and Lipton’s 6-yard run put Lake Hamilton on the 22, then Eastburn ripped through a right-side hole and pulled adefender into the end zone for a 19-7 lead with 5:24 left in the half.

Lake Hamilton had 247 first-half yards, 133 rushing, and 10 first downs to Marion’s 208 and 8.

The Wolves then drove 81 yards for a 27-7 lead. Sawrie rolled out for 16- and 30-yard gains and passed to Mittelstadt for 8, and Eastburn ran for 9 before scoring from the 13. Sawrie passed to Josh Chancellor for a 2-point conversion.

After a defensive stop, Sawrie hit Mittelstadt down the middle for a touchdown with 51 seconds left in the period.

NO. 3 JONESBORO 38, BATESVILLE 31

BATESVILLE - Denzell Mitchell rushed for 318 yards and 3 touchdowns to seal the victory for the Hurricane (2-1) over the Pioneers (1-2).

Mitchell rushed 32 times and scored on runs from 61, 34 and 14 yards. Reed Wingo also passed for a pair of touchdowns, and Lamar Haynes caught two scoring passes for the Hurricane.

Kenton Crawford threw for 271 yards and a touchdown for the Pioneers.

NO. 5 RUSSELLVILLE 17, ALMA 7

RUSSELLVILLE - Senior quarterback Cody Jones completed 29 of 44 passes for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns to lift the Cyclones to a nonconference victory.

Senior running back Kentrell Scott added 14 carries for 68 yards as Russellville ran its record to 3-0.

Jones’ favorite target was senior receiver Jalen Curtis, who caught 10 passes for 120 yards and 1 touchdown. Junior receiver Tony Jones caught 6 other throws for 62 yards and 1 score.

The Pointers defense sacked the Airedales quarterback four times, and senior Isiah McGlone recovered a fumble against Alma (1-2)
