Wal-Mart taps Bartlett as executive vice president

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. named Dan Bartlett, president and chief executive officer of public relations firm Hill+Knowlton Strategies, as its next executive vice president for corporate affairs Wednesday.

In addition to his regular duties, which will include oversight of external communications, government relations and sustainability, as well as overseeing the Walmart Foundation, Bartlett, 41, will serve as a member of the Bentonville-based retailer's legal counsel.

"Corporate Affairs plays a strong role in helping us meet our business objectives at Walmart," Wal-Mart President and CEO Mike Duke said in a statement.  "The team also helps us step up to the broader role we can play in meeting some of the biggest social challenges in the world today — issues like fighting hunger, job creation, sustainability, women's economic empowerment and the availability of healthier food."

Bartlett also previously served as senior counselor to President George W. Bush.
