Cleburne County searches for 2; drowning suspected

Officials are searching for a man and woman suspected to have drowned on Greers Ferry Lake, the Cleburne County sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Recovery efforts are underway near Eden Isle for Chetana Armbya, 26, and her brother Narain Armbya, 33.

Witnesses said Chetana was swimming near a pontoon boat that her brother and other family members and friends were on.

Narain reportedly saw his sister having trouble in the water and swam out to help her get back to the boat.

Both disappeared before reaching the boat and neither was wearing a flotation device, the release states.

Cleburne County is getting assistance with the search from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas Game and Fish, Corp of Engineers, Cove Creek Fire Department and other volunteers, the release states.

No further information was immediately available Sunday.
