Rogers Optimists Fall In Extra Innings; Bentonville Rolls

Fort Smith Kerwins took advantage of Rogers Optimist’s mistakes to claim a hard-fought 5-3 win in 13 innings in American Legion baseball Tuesday at Veterans Park.

Kerwins tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the ninth, then added two more unearned runs in the 13th for the win.

Jacob Kent went 3-for-5 and drove in a run to lead Rogers’ 13-hit attack. Derek Sallee, Austin Griffin and Jacob Ivey added two hits each. Griffin drove in a run and scored a run.

Sallee, who scored a run, also pitched the first 6 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs (both earned) on six hits, while striking out four and walking none.

Bentonville 12, Harrison 2

Trenton Hill struck out 10 in just four innings of work and Luke Bandy went 3-for-4 to lead Bentonville to the easy win Tuesday night.

Hill, Bandy and Kasey Ford combined for the win on the mound for Bentonville, which improved to 7-3.

Bentonville will travel to Fort Smith on Thursday to face Kerwins in a Zone 1 game at Hunts Park.
