Springdale Man Hospitalized After Beating

SPRINGDALE — A man was flown to Springfield, Mo., after he was beaten during a robbery Tuesday.

Police say Jose Jesus Alvarez-Meja, 35, of Springdale, was beaten and robbed by three men. Police arrested J’Donta Britt, 18, and Timmie Robinson, 18, both of Springdale, in connection with the robbery, according to a Police Department news release. A third arrest is expected.

A witness called 911 at 11:50 p.m. to report the beating near Brookhaven Apartments on Powell Street. The caller said the men were kicking and jumping on Alvarez-Meja, who had fallen to the pavement.

The witness said the men fled in a maroon Chevrolet Impala.

Police found Alvarez-Meja on the ground with head injuries. The Impala was later found and two men fled on foot. Britt and Robinson were arrested after Robinson was shot with a stun gun. A billfold belonging to Alvarez-Meja was found on the ground near where the arrests were made, according to police.

Alvarez-Meja's backpack, with possible blood stains, was found in the vehicle, according to the release. No connection between the Britt and Robinson and Alvarez-Meja has been found yet. Alvarez-Meja had just arrived home when he was attacked.

Alvarez-Meja was taken by ambulance to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, then flown to the trauma center at Mercy Hospital in Springfield because of the severity of his injuries.

Britt, of 321 Braxton Ave. in Springdale, and Robinson, of 1530 Butterfield Coach Road in Springdale, were arrested Wednesday in connection with felony aggravated robbery, first degree battery, engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise and misdemeanor fleeing.

Britt was also arrested in connection with felony non-financial identity fraud, misdemeanor criminal impersonation, a felony warrant and two misdemeanor warrants, according to police records. Robinson also was arrested in connection with a misdemeanor warrant.

The investigation is continuing.
