SD youth wins duck stamp contest

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has selected the canvasback duck to appear on the 2013-2014 Federal Junior Duck Stamp.

The design for the new stamp, painted by Madison Grimm, 6, of Burbank, S.D., was chosen by a panel of judges at the national Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest, held at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, W. Va.

The oil painting, which won the South Dakota State Junior Duck Stamp Contest, was judged the winner among Best of Show entries from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Proceeds from sales of the $5 Junior Duck Stamp support environmental education.

Contest results are available at fws.gov/juniorduck. A gallery of all the Best of Show entries is available at www.flickr.com/photos/usfwshq/sets/72157633238798918/ .
