Rick Santorum, the former GOP presidential candidate, and South Carolina’s Sen. Jim DeMint have joined Newt Gingrich in endorsing Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri, who was called on by many in the party, including presidential nominee Mitt Romney, to end his Senate campaign after he said women’s bodies have a natural defense against pregnancy in cases of “legitimate rape.”

Maj. Nidal Hasan, 42, the Army psychiatrist charged in a deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage, has been returned to jail after being hospitalized for an undisclosed condition.

Mona Eltahawy, 45, an Egyptian-born columnist who lives in New York, has been arrested over allegations she spray-painted at a city subway station an advertisement that reads, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”
