1 wreck, some citations as rally begins

The first night of Bikes, Blues & BBQ was relatively quiet other than one major accident on Interstate 540.

According to Arkansas State Police, at least one person was transported to the Washington Regional Medical Center after the wreck.

Greggory Morris, 65, and Rebekah Wolf, 47, both of Hot Springs, were injured near Mile Marker 68 along I-540 at 5:44 p.m.

According to an accident report, Wolf was riding behind Morris as he drove northbound in the outside lane on a 1999 Harley-Davidson.

The two were reportedly headed to Bikes, Blues BBQ when the back tire of their motorcycle blew out, causing Morris to lose control. He went onto the northbound shoulder, overturned and slid down the shoulder. The motorcycle came to rest on its left side facing east along the northbound shoulder.

Police said Morris and Wolf were wearing helmets.

The report stated that Morris suffered an “incapacitating injury.” Police didn’t indicate how Wolf was injured.

Fayetteville Sgt. Craig Stout said no other motorcycle accidents were reported in Fayetteville on Wednesday.

He said two people were cited for public intoxication and one person was cited for driving the wrong way on Watson Street.

Stout said police closed Dickson Street at 1 p.m. Wednesday because of wet weather conditions and traffic congestion. He said other street closures inside the event area will begin as public safety dictates. In years past, Stout said police haven’t had to close down any streets before Friday.
