Attorney General Dustin McDaniel on Friday asked U.S. District Judge D.P. Marshall to schedule a hearing on its motion. McDaniel said in the filing that the state expects the hearing would last about two weeks.

The state in March asked Marshall to release it from the desegregation settlement agreement with the North Little Rock, Little Rock and Pulaski County school districts.

The settlement requires Arkansas to fund magnet schools, transfers between districts and other programs to support desegregation and keep a racial balance in the three school districts. Those costs add up to about $70 million a year.
