Fireworks use banned in Fayetteville

Setting off fireworks in Fayetteville will be banned through the Fourth of July unless rain comes to the region, city Fire Marshal Harley Hunt said today.

Those caught using fireworks in the city can be issued a $120 citation, said Fayetteville police Cpl. Dale Montgomery.

Washington County Judge Marilyn Edwards this morning issued a ban on burning in Washington County. The ban remains in effect until she cancels it.

The professional Fayetteville fireworks display scheduled for Wednesday night at the Northwest Arkansas Mall will still go on as planned, Hunt said.

In Fayetteville, fireworks can be sold between June 28 and July 5. In normal conditions, fireworks can be used between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. July 1 to 3. On the July 4, fireworks can be used between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. when a ban is not in effect.
