Second thoughts

— ‘Shaquita’ to make appearance

Boston Celtics big man Shaquille O’Neal has been a terror in the paint for nearly two decades, but Shaq’s new plans could be even scarier.

According to The Associated Press, O’Neal plans on dressing up for Halloween as a 7-1, 345-pound woman named “Shaquita.”

That includes the wig, the dress ... the works.

“Usually, I’m the ringleader of bringing fun to a team, but I haven’t done anything yet,” O’Neal said of his new team.

“These guys crack me up.”

O’Neal, 38, is fifth all-time with 28,255 points and first among active players with 12,921 rebounds. But he also has a penchant for comedic flair.

Last week, he spent one hour on a bench in Harvard Square pretending to be a statue while fans posed for pictures.

Finally, he’s doing something to boost the popularity of the WNBA.

Favre poll

Answer to sportspickle.

com poll on Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre’s future: “He’ll keep playing - long after we’re all dead and the universe has imploded, forever throwing interceptions into nothingness.”

That finished ahead of: “He’ll get benched - Brad Childress is fed up with Favre trying to take his job as the team’s chief poor decision maker.” Poor comparison

First-year Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley criticized the Vols’ 2-5, 0-4 record Monday by comparing his team’s struggles to the German forces in Normandy during World War II.

“Right now we’re like the Germans in World War II,” Dooley said. “Here comes the boats, they’re coming. You have binoculars, and it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, the invasion is coming.’ ”

After the slight to his young and reactionary team, Dooley added he didn’t want to upset German people with the remark. Dooley added: “You had the other group, and they go ... ‘We weren’t ready for this, now what do we do?’ ”

If there is any similarity, it’s that both Tennessee and the Germans found ways to lose.

BCS for Windows

ESPN commentary on running the BCS on Microsoft computer systems:

“Windows 98 - As I was beginning to run the BCS program, a paper clip popped up on the screen and said: ‘It looks like you are trying to ruin college football. Would you like some help?’ ”

“Windows Vista - Every time I tried to run the BCS formula, a window popped up saying I was trying to run a ‘malicious program.’ Have to agree with you there, Vista.” Miami poetry

Excitement around Lebron James and the Miami Heat has spurred different reactions from fans.

Among the strangest?

A Miami radio station ran a contest for entries in a local poetry festival, according to ESPN.

Don’t expect too many entries from Cleveland.
