Rick Murphy

Rick Murphy, 62, passed away on December 18th in Little Rock surrounded by loved ones. Born in Dumas, he was the son of JW and Carrie Lou Murphy of Gould. After graduating from Star City High School, Rick attended the University of Arkansas, where he played football for the Razorbacks and was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Rick is preceded in death by his father, one son, Ryan Murphy and one brother, Mike Murphy. After attending the U of A, Rick began his professional career in Rogers at First Federal Savings & Loan. In 1982, he was named to the Rogers Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Rick believed in the growth of Northwest Arkansas and was a part of many organization to ensure that growth; including the Rogers Centennial Commission and the Chamber's Harvest Fest committee. In 1985, he was promoted to President of First Federal and became the youngest savings and loan president in the state of Arkansas. Rick went on to enjoy a long career in banking. Rick was a man of great wit and charm, and was always ready to help lend a hand to a friend in need. He loved his family, Razorback football and Elvis Presley. Survivors are his two daughters, Molly Murphy Thompson of Monticello and Meagan Murphy of Little Rock, mother, Carrie L. Murphy of Little Rock and two brothers, Randy Murphy of Little Rock and Mark Murphy of Little Rock and three grandchildren. Visitation held prior to graveside services, visitation will be held from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Griffin Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Dark Corner Cemetery.
