Alice Russell Eubanks

Alice "Russell" Harris Eubanks, 86 of Rogers, Ark. passed away Thursday, Sept 10, 2015 at her home. Russell, as she was known to her friends and family, was born on January 1, 1929 in Sheridan, Ark. a daughter of Lida and Marvin Harris She was born into a musically minded family. All family members played musical instruments and sang. Russell played the snare drum, starting in junior high through college and loved the marching band. In junior high and high school years she and her sisters sang as a trio at various gatherings. She and her family were also church choir members. Russell attended Sheridan Public schools, attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville, UCA in Conway, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Vocational Home Economics and Memphis State University, where she received her Master's in Secondary Counseling. Russell married Joe Tom Eubanks Jr. on July 2, 1949 and they were married 35 years at the time of his death in 1984. She worked 14 years as a teacher in schools in Tennessee and 18 years as a counselor at Oakdale Junior High in Rogers. She was a member of the St Andrews Episcopal Church in Rogers. Before retiring Russell assisted teaching ballroom dancing and continued several years after her retirement. Her passions were teaching and helping young people, ballroom dancing and adding gardening beauty to her church and her home. Most of all she loved the Lord and her family and was thankful every day for them. Russell is survived by her son, John David Eubanks and wife Daisy of Ft. Smith; her daughter, Mary Ellen Eubanks Young and husband Jim of River Forest, Ill.; a sister, Betty Sue Kell and husband Wilson of Marianna, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Edgmon and husband Kerry, Brandon Scott Eubanks, Virginia Ashley Young, Hali Brooks Eubanks Harrison and husband Sean, LTJG Clayton Harris Young, Madeline Grace Young Hejza and husband Dan, and Celeste Lorelle Eubanks Fulmer and husband Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Joe Tom Eubanks III and one sister, Marvia Nan Springer. A Memorial service will be held at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Rogers, Arkansas on Saturday, September 19th at 3 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
