George John Albert Lipke passed from this life on October 8, 2015, with his youngest daughter, Laura Joseph, at his side. He grew up and worked in the Chicago area until retiring to Hot Springs Village in 1983, enjoying a long, healthy, happy retirement surrounded by a wide circle of friends and family until losing Helen, his wife of 70 years, in 2010. At this point, he moved to Springdale to live with his youngest daughter Laura who compassionately cared for him during his final years. As a child and young man he summered in Pentwater, Michigan at the family cottage - a Lipke family tradition which continues to this day. Even though he lived and worked in the gritty city of Chicago, he loved nature and the out of doors: ice fishing in the cold winter, fishing in the summer, hunting trips to Wyoming, bird watching, and in later years just sitting outside or driving through the country. Judging by the lack of fresh fish on the family menu, it was never about the kill or the catch, but communing with nature. George was born in Chicago, Illinois June 29, 1916 to Evelyn Anderson and George Albert Lipke. He is predeceased by Helen, his wife of 70 years, his parents, and his younger sister, June Moore. He is survived by his siblings, Charles Lipke and Joan Cuchna; children, Diane Swan (Wendel), Dr. Jay Lipke (Leslie), Susan Calloway, and Laura Joseph; grandchildren, E.W. Swan (Dr. Amanda Ferrell ), Kathryn Swan(Traian Dogaru), Heather Schmiegelow (Brent), Dr. Lindsay Enns (Dr. Michael), Joan Hamilton (Kyle), Andrew Lipke (Sloan), Christian Calloway (Sofia), Anna Calloway, David Joseph, and Emily Joseph; great grandchildren Daniel Swan, Paxon Enns, Alexis Enns, Charlotte Enns, Luke Schmiegelow, and Landon Schmiegelow. A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale Arkansas on Wednesday, October 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Arkansas Nature Conservancy, 601 North University Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
