Ervin M. Monnington

Ervin M. Monnington, 101, of Bentonville, passed away on May 24, 2015 in his home. He was born at Overton, Nebraska to the late William A. and Jenny Lydia (Caldwell) Monnington on April 2, 1914. He graduated from Overton High School and Kearney State College. He was a High School Principal and Coach before entering the Postal Service, where he retired after 30 years of service. Ervin was a Master Sargent in the Army Air Force and was stationed at New Braunfels, Texas during WWII. He met and married Billye Jean Hukill there in 1944. Upon retirement, they moved from Nebraska to Bentonville, Ark. in 1976. Erv was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church, Charter Member and Past President of the Men's Nine Hole Golf Association, the Rinkydink Golf Group, the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge, where he received his 50 year pin in 1997. He is survived by his son, Pete Monnington and wife, Carolyn of Bentonville; a daughter, Linda Oliver and husband, Rick of Springdale; two granddaughters, Amy Harris and husband, Kyle of Springdale and Ginnie Soloman and husband, Nolan of Springfield, Mo.; a grandson, Scott Monnington of Bentonviile; two great-grandsons, Nick and Dylan Harris; three great-granddaughters, Alexis, Bradie and Brooklyn Soloman; and his brother-in-law C.L. Hukill of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billye, who passed in 2012; sister, Opal Schleiger; nephew, David W. Schleiger; brother, LaVerne W. Monnington, who lost his life in WWII, brother-in-law, Joel A Schleiger, and sister-in-law, Sherry Hukill. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11 in Bentonville Cemetery.
