Virgil Alvin Smith

Virgil Alvin Smith, 79, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born on November 10, 1935 in Post Oak, Illinois to James L. Smith and Hannah DeWitt Smith. He was educated in Iowa, South Dakota, Nevada, Arkansas and graduated from high school in Midland, South Dakota. He attended college at Springfield, South Dakota. Virgil married Laurel Scholten on November 10, 1956 in Armour, South Dakota. He farmed in South Dakota and moved to Arkansas in 1981 and was employed at the Bella Vista Water Department. He retired in 1996 as Assistant Water Superintendent. He enjoyed flying radio controlled model airplanes, gardening, fishing and tinkering. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Artie Smith, Dallas Smith; sisters, Lucille DeWitt, Julia Rupp and Evelyn Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Laurel Smith of Bella Vista, Arkansas; four daughters, Debra Smith and husband Eddie of Garfield, Arkansas, Darla Creger and husband, Fred of Springdale, Arkansas; Donna Archambeau and husband, Mark of Denver, Colorado, June Wilkerson and husband, Kent of St. Louis, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Arkansas.
