Dorothy Covington, age 88, of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday April 8, 2015. She was born October 14, 1926 in Newellton, Louisiana to Robert and Anne Poe Williams. She was a member of University Baptist Church in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jess Baker Covington. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, taking the time to know and encourage every family member. She is survived by one son, David Covington, and his wife Ann of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Matthew Covington and his wife Elizabeth, Katie Rogers and her husband Jeremy, James Covington and his wife Allison, Lisa Kieklak and her husband Steve; six great-grandchildren, Jesse Covington, Ben Rogers, Will Covington, Levi Rogers, Max Covington, and Nate Covington. Dorothy is a graduate of Helena High School and the UofA with a degree in Journalism. In 1947, she fell in love with a young Navy sailor, Jess Covington, also a Journalism Major. Their marriage the following year would last over four decades until Jess died in 1994 of heart failure. Only death would part them. Along the way they developed an interest in trailer camping and formed the Razorback Campers. Over the years, they travelled in the summers to destinations all over the United States. As a good journalist, Dorothy documented their travels in scrap books. Many of her years she served as a Sunday school teacher for kindergarten and junior high students, and during the 1970s she and her husband served as leaders and mentors to college students at University Baptist Church. In later years she was a member of the UBC Women's Council and started a grief recovery group. She actively participated in her church's prayer ministry, supported missions, and individually mentored many women. Visitation will be 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday April 10, 2015 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at University Baptist Church with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
