George W. Magie, 77, of Rogers, Ark., died on Oct. 26, 2014, at the Circle of Life Hospice Legacy Village in Bentonville, Ark. He was born on March 28, 1937, to W.A. and Kathryn Godfrey Magie in Albia, Iowa, the first of their six children. He attended Albia schools, graduating in the Class of 1955 with his soon to be wife, Joan Emma Neuleib, whom he wed Aug. 16, 1958. He received a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University in 1959. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), where he enjoyed a successful career spanning 34 years in seven locations. He retired in 1993. George and Joan then relocated to Rogers, Ark., where they began their retirement years. George was an avid outdoorsman. His first loves were pheasant, quail and waterfowl hunting. He also had a passion for boating, fishing and deer hunting. He became a self-taught woodworker, building many pieces of furniture for the home as well as for his family. Active in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church until his health began to fail, he made pocket crosses from hardwoods, always quick to show and give them to others as a way to share his faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Dick Magie; and brother-in-law, Carl Erickson. He is survived by his wife, Joan of 56 years; four children, son, Tim and wife, Samantha Magie, of Rogers, his stepgrandchild, Katelyn and husband, Trevor Williamson, of Springdale, son, Bob Magie of Oklahoma City, Okla., grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Magie of Sallisaw, Okla., son, Joe and wife, Lisa Magie, stepgrandchildren, Thomas, Gabriella and Alexandra DeGeronimo, all of Lakeland, Fla.; daughter, Ann Magie of Rogers and grandson, Cody McCarty, of Denver, Colo.; sister, Kay and husband, Jim Bowden, of Peotone, Ill.; sister-in-law, Diane Magie of Bella Vista; brother, Bill and wife, Fran Magie, of Polk City, Iowa; sister, Mary and husband, George Reade, of Midvale, Utah; cousin, Sue and husband, Gene Rampelberg, of Slinger, Wis.; sister-in-law, Jean Erickson of Atkinson, Ill.; brother-in-law, Dick and wife, Pat Neuleib, of Nashua, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He will be interred at his gravesite near his parents and his brother, John, along with many of the family at Oakdale Cemetery in Albia, Iowa. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1101 W. Hudson Road, Rogers, Ark. The family suggests memorials to the Holy Trinity Care Fund at the address above. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers.
