James Henry Gibbs, 78, of Springdale passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at his home. He was born June 7, 1936, in Glasgow, Mo., to John Rhea and Elinor Virginia Johnson Gibbs. Jim was born and raised on the farm his family homesteaded in Glasgow. He spent his youth raising and showing cattle. Jim loved farm life. He attended The University of Missouri-Columbia where he was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity. He received his degree in Animal Husbandry and Economics in 1959. Jim worked with the judging teams for the American Royal, was a member of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, President of the Lion's Club of Lenexa, Kansas and most recently volunteered at the Bread of LIfe in Springdale. These are just a few of the many volunteer activities throughout Jim's life. Family was always first for Jim, he never missed a sporting event or activity for his children or grandchildren. He would travel across the country, no event was ever too far. Jim truly enjoyed and was proud of his 30-year career with the Upjohn Company. While with the Upjohn Company, Jim received numerous awards including its highest achievement award, The Upjohn Award. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anne Gibbs; one son, James Christopher Gibbs and wife Tami of Fayetteville; one daughter, Tracey Rhea Gibbs and husband Richard Schwabenlander of Kingwood, Texas; two brothers, John David Gibbs and wife Joan of Liberty, Missouri and Joseph Dent Gibbs and wife Doris of Glasgow, Missouri; one sister, Mary Lou Grose of Oceanside, California; three grandchildren, Jackson Rhea Schwabenlander, Katherine Grace Gibbs and James Henry Gibbs II. Memorial service will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at 10 at First United Methodist Church in Springdale with Rev. Judy VanHoose officiating. Memorials may be made to Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W.
