JoBelle Reed Carnes, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2014. She was born at Greathouse Springs, Ark., on Aug. 24, 1925, to parents, Joe and Winnie Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bonnie Gayle and two brothers, Jack and Jim. JoBelle is survived by her husband of 69 years, Kenneth Carnes; two daughters, Clydia Combs and her husband Carl of Fayetteville; Lana Turney and her husband Allen of Heber Springs, Ark.; grandsons, Justin Combs and his wife Karrie of Springdale, Lex Combs and his wife Becky of Springdale, Matt Turney and his wife Nikki of Heber Springs and granddaughter, Kenna Lee and her husband Tim of Springdale; great-grandchildren, Emily Kate, Carter, Linden and Blakelyn Combs. Parker and Colton Lee all of Springdale and Hope and Luke Turney of Heber Springs. JoBelle graduated from the University of Arkansas where she was member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She taught elementary school in Prairie Grove, Elm Springs and Springdale. She was a member of Terra Firma garden club where she was known for her beautiful long-stemmed roses. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Springdale where she served as an elder and was lifetime member of Presbyterian Women. JoBelle was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2000 and was lovingly cared for by her family and caregivers, Dorothy Howard, Wendy Thompson, Jessica and Jennifer Palma, Paula Rony and Brenda Schossow. Memorial Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church in Springdale with the Rev. Stewart Smith officiating under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. There will be a private family committal service at Elm Springs Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
