John Jay Devich

John J. Devich, 100, of Rogers, Ark., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Innisfree Retirement Home. He was born Nov. 10, 1913, in Virginia, Minn., to Anthony and Josephine Kolbuphar Devich. He had a love for his family, sailing, boating, skiing (summer and winter), windsurfing, building, tinkering and for life itself. He built sailboats, furniture, two homes and could fix anything from an injured finger to an electrical blackout. John earned a football scholarship to North Dakota State and after graduation proudly served in the United States Navy before spending a career at 3M. He never missed a day of work. That statement is indicative of who he was: someone who gave his all and was loyal to a fault. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leone (Green) Devich; his parents; one daughter, Joan Rossbach; and 10 siblings. John is survived by three daughters, Patricia Wegwerth and husband, Allen, of Bella Vista, Ark., Terry Swenson and husband, Helmer, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Connie Devich and husband, Raymond, of Stillwater, Minn.; one son, John M. Devich and wife, Claudia, of Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Betty Bierman of Bella Vista for her devoted friendship to Leone and John during their lifetime. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers. Words of comfort may be expressed at stockdalefuneral.com.
