Herman Alonzo Dye of Garfield, Ark., received his new legs in Heaven Jan.26, 2014. He was born to Shadrach "Shade" and Jewell Dye May 24, 1932, in Garfield. He served his country in the Korean War, then began a career with the Army Corps of Engineers, that span from working on the construction of Beaver Dam to retiring as park ranger in 1992. He also enjoyed his cattle and auctioneering with Dayne Galyen. He was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Garfield. He married Patricia "Patsy" Ann Pratt, April 12, 1957, and from this union were born four boys, Rick (Pam), Tony (Tina), John (Michelle) and David (Wendy), all of Garfield; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, which survive him along with a sister, Norma Garrett; and lifelong friend, L.J. Dart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll. The family would like to express a loving "Thank you" to the staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fayetteville for the wonderful care Herman and the family received. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, from noon to 2 p.m., followed by services at 2 p.m. at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th S., Rogers.
